Due to extreme hardness, it can shatter under certain circumstances which are actually useful. It increases performance and also longevity due to slow wearing out. Treated steel actually wear out more times than tungsten carbide coating. The slow wearing out rate ensure the integrity of the part is maintained and more time in the field.
