Without Notary Services Los Angeles Courts Will Be Hampered

By Eric Myers

It is a sad indictment on modern society that nobody can afford to trust anyone else any longer, especially when getting involved in legal matters. These days, everything has to be recorded formally, it has to be witnessed and notarized and it has to be filed. If this is not done, no agreement will be viewed as valid or else it will be subject to denial. But with reputable notary services Los Angeles citizens do have access to professionals that can help them to notarize their dealings.

In ancient Rome scribes that used to be simple copiers of text slowly but surely took on more responsibilities such as recording meetings, legal proceedings, speeches and public hearings. This is where modern notaries originate from. They are highly regarded individuals that are appointed by the courts and the government to act as official witnesses of events, agreements and proceedings. In many cases they are appointed for life.

Some people think that the only duty performed by notaries is to certify copies of documents as true to the original. They do this very often, but it is not all they do. They also administer oaths, making sure that the person making the oath understands that any subsequent lie will be a criminal offence that can carry heavy penalties. Oaths are administered whenever someone wants to swear that he will speak nothing but the truth.

Notaries are often called upon to take down depositions and affidavits. Depositions are often required by lawyers in order to help them prepare their court cases. Sometimes the court will also allow a deposition to serve as evidence if the person that made the deposition is unable to testify personally. Depositions and affidavits can be lengthy documents and that is why some notaries are also qualified as stenographers.

Notaries also act as official witnesses when two or more people negotiate an agreement. Their role is to observe and to certify that all the parties are in agreement with the conditions of the agreement and that they fully understand them. Many people also prefer to have contracts notarized in order to make sure that there are no misunderstandings or conflict at a later stage.

Performing ceremonies and witnessing events are among the more interesting tasks notaries sometimes perform. In some countries they are authorised to perform wedding ceremonies. Authorities such as Guinness World Records use notaries to monitor attempts on records and to notarize that all the rules were obeyed and to officially declare whether the attempt was successful or not. Courts also use them to certify that court orders are obeyed.

Notaries have to keep very detailed records of all the activities related to their positions. These records are important because they provide irrefutable proof that an oath was administers, an event took place, an agreement has been made between two or more parties or that an affidavit has been made. The very existence of these records is often more than enough to forestall disputes and conflict.

It is a great honour to be appointed as a notary. Only individuals with impeccable reputations for honesty and strong moral fibre are considered. Notaries play an important role in helping ordinary citizens and many other role players to avoid potential disputes and to record their testimonies.
